Screen Archive South East has many wonderful pieces of footage showing weddings throughout the decades, dating back to the 1920s (find out more and view footage from our our current collection here).
However, footage from the recent wedding of May and Lily will be the first LGBTQIA+ wedding to be added to the collection.
The ‘Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act’ took introduced civil marriage for same-sex couples in England and Wales and took effect from 2014.
SASE is pleased to be able to be have this footage as part of the collection, as part of creating a more expansive picture of marriage in the South East.
Do you have footage from a queer wedding? SASE would love the opportunity to preserve it! Just send firstname.lastname@example.org an email to let us know!
Our Screen Heritage is collecting, preserving & celebrating LGBTQIA+ footage from across the South East. Footage such as this is an exciting step forward in addressing the historic lack of queer representation in the #archive.
